Mr. Derek K. Donkoh is the Managing Director and Principal for Komen Asset Managers, Inc. Derek has over 10 years of professional experience within the financial services industry providing advisory and trading expertise. His experience stems from his belief in returning alpha by delivering consistent positive risk-adjusted returns by being methodically focused strongly on risk management and capital preservation throughout market cycles. His ability to blend fundamental and technical analysis as well as extrapolate and interpolate elements to achieve desired goals, combined with a disciplined trading process has culminated into his own proprietary blend of trading strategies. Derek is responsible for the overall trading philosophy of the Komen products, implementation of future investment products and is primary trader for the Komen managed programs.
With his passion for finance and his strong researching ability garnered from his undergraduate degree in History, he started his career with a boutique advisory firm, Simmers Capital Management where he climbed up the ranks to become a Managing Principal. Providing risk management solutions and investment opportunities to his clients while managing a team of advisors, quickly developed and honed his managerial and sales abilities within the industry. An opportunity presented itself with The Malachi Group, an investment banking firm which specialized in corporate and public financing. Making the move, which best served his clients as well, rewarded tremendous growth. As a Fixed Income Manager, his role was to marshal the firm’s extensive resources in the delivery of tailored solutions across a spectrum of alternative (commodities, currency, structured products, private equity, hedge funds) and traditional (equities and bonds) asset classes aiming to exceed the strategic and tactical investment objectives of his and the firm's clients. This is where Derek created various hedging & risk management trading techniques which today have become his own proprietary system. In 2005, led him to develop and source a relationship to facilitate a $1.3 billion creative financing transaction using a Constant Proportion Portfolio Insured note("CPPI"), with the assistance of three major financial institutions. Derek has also worked with several R&D and consulting firms.
